Willington on the Way July-2025

President’s Update

I’d love to shine a spotlight on the History Center this month and share some exciting updates. First, please join me in welcoming our new manager, Erik Engebrigtsen. Erik has jumped in wholeheartedly, taking on the big project of reorganizing our genealogy files and moving them from the old cabinet to a new one. It’s no small job, given how rich and extensive our collection is. Willington’s history is filled with remarkable people, too many to name here — and I wouldn’t want to risk leaving anyone out.

While Erik is busy with that, I’m also happy to announce a new role at the museum: curator. Jean Able, one of our dedicated volunteers, will step into this position. Jean and Erik will work together on bringing some fresh ideas to our display cases, which I think will make for a truly interesting and engaging experience.

Our new feature wall showcasing home goods from the early 1900s is also coming together beautifully. This display will continue to evolve as we discover more artifacts that reflect daily life in that time period.

Finally, I want to say a heartfelt thank you to all our volunteers at the History Center and the Bookshop. So many of the ideas taking shape right now come directly from your creativity and hard work. As we make a few changes going forward, my hope is to make this an even more welcoming and enjoyable place to volunteer — and to visit.

Thank you for everything you do.
