Willington on the Way May News!

Spring Beautification, Butterflies, and Bicycles!

President’s Message:

As Memorial Day approaches—mark your calendars for May 26—our dedicated local volunteers have been hard at work sprucing things up! Lynn McElwee and her husband Mick, along with Cindi MarQuardt (all proud members of the McCormick Garden Club), have been busy cleaning up the gazebo and planting a colorful array of flowers. Why? Because Willington is home to a butterfly migratory substation! Thanks to their green thumbs, the space is now ready to welcome both butterflies and visitors alike.

On the 26th, we’ll also kick off our free ice water station for the many hikers and cyclists who enjoy the Savannah Valley Train Trails and the scenic Willington Forest Service roads. Willington is a fantastic place to explore on two feet—or two wheels. So, pack a lunch, bring your camera, and come check out our butterfly haven.

Need a rest stop? From Wednesday to Saturday, our charming bookstore and History Center are open from 11 AM to 3 PM, complete with bathroom facilities (because even adventurers need a break). If you’re part of a larger group, give us a heads-up—we’d love to arrange a tour of our History Center and help you plan a picnic at our art exhibit in the breezeway on the corner of our buildings.

Now for Some Exciting News!

We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve finalized the purchase of a brand-new sign for the corner of Route 81 and Morrah Bridge Road. If all goes according to plan (and the weather behaves), construction will begin this coming Saturday, May 10. Keep an eye out for it—it’ll be hard to miss!
